Hurricane Ike uncovers mystery vessel on Ala. coast

Possibly the 'Monticello'. A two-masted Civil War schooner.

Or an unnamed ship wreck from 1792. Or a schooner named 'Rachel' - from 1933.

The only thing definite are the dimensions.

The wrecked ship is 136.9 feet long and 25 feet wide, according to Mike Bailey, site curator at Fort Morgan, who examined it this week.

A full excavation will be required for positive I.D. of the vessel.
