Libyan rat killin'

In Afghanistan. Abu Laith al-Libi, rumored to be al qaeda's number three guy, is reported to be worm food.

Libi, a Libyan, appeared in a video issued in November with al Qaeda's second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri to announce that a Libyan Islamist group had joined the militant organization.

You might wanna find a new phone company

And dump their stock too. Sprint Nextel to cut jobs, close stores.

Sprint Nextel Corp.'s stock plunged Friday, Jan. 18th, after the wireless carrier said it will cut 4,000 jobs and close 125 retail locations in response to a steep drop in its customer base. In addition to the layoffs and store closings, Sprint plans to shut down 4,000 of its 20,000 third-party distribution points, such as stalls inside consumer-electronics retailers, and reduce its use of contractors and outsourced services. Sprint's shares dropped 24.81 percent Friday to close at $8.70.
Gee. I wonder what caused that? Subscriber trends continue to batter Sprint.
During all of 2007, when AT&T, Verizon Wireless and T-MobileUSA added a total of 17.7 million subscribers, Sprint added only 772,000. When counting only customers on monthly calling contracts, Sprint lost 1.2 million subscribers during the year.
Maybe it's because your service sux!!

And now the bad news. Sprint warns of multibillion-dollar write-off.
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) — Sprint Nextel (S), the nation's third-largest wireless provider, said Thursday it may have to write off up to $31 billion in value. Sprint Nextel said a write-down wouldn't affect the company's cash balance or future cash flows or leave the company in danger of violating its debt covenants.

I thought it was all about choice?

I'm not sure what to make of this. The perpetually outraged feminazis are, of course, outraged at this veil fetish art, and argue this is what happens when stereotypes collide. Dammit! You can't gunny sack 'em, and you can't sexualize 'em.

I'm not sure if this genre of pin up is a Western creation of the body in a burqa for titillating Mid East consumption, or if it is home grown Middle eastern monkey spank for the sexually repressed Muslim male which found a niche in the darkened minds of Western fetishists. I'll leave all that to your imagination.

Muslimah Media Watch is outraged that this type of 'islamic erotica' is popular on Western blogs she deems 'islamophobic or xenophobic', and equally outraged that the models are most likely Western women.
So whose attention are they aiming for? Like I described earlier, the majority of websites that feature images like these usually carry heavy Islamophobic themes. Ironically, these outlets are often the same ones that call for the “liberation” of Muslim women while depicting these women in pornographic imagery. In these pictures, the veil adds a dimension of oppression that cries out for western male help: you can almost hear the women breathe, “Liberate me!” Take off her veil and get a prize…her body! So…if you can’t beat ‘em, degrade ‘em!
And I thought it was all about choice.

The painting featured here is by one Makan “Max” Emadi, and he contrasts East v. West in more common sense terms - men are hot for women:
“Representation of the female body is forbidden in strict Islamic tradition, and is therefore taboo in today's Muslim cultures. To imagine Western art without the nude is, in contrast, impossible. These paintings revisit the Western tradition of pin-up art and its ‘celebration’ of the female form while ‘lovingly’ objectifying it through overexposure and unnatural posing of the model. The Middle East's version of sexism, in contrast, takes the form of control through mandated repressive female clothing, or ‘Hejab,’ in the name of protecting and honoring women.

If you don't do the rat killin', then we'll do it for you.

The Asia Times says that the US has built a base right on the Afghan-Pakistan border for the purposes of raiding into Pakistan, with or without Islamabad's approval. Al-Qaeda's impotent attacks on the base only resulted in AQ retreating further into Pakistan.

To bring some lovin' here today - Marvin Gaye, 1971
That was over 35 years ago, and it looks like nothing much has changed. Except black society is more disfunctional & violent. This brokenness is glorified in a pervasively malignant gansta rap culture parroted in most high schools and on many street corners - with deadly results. It looks like the worst of it is here in Missouri. Missouri leads nation in black homicide rate for 2005.
In 2005, there were 127 homicide victims in Kansas City. 86 of those were African-American. In 2006, there were 115 homicides, with 94 of the victims were black. In 2007, out of 94 homicide victims, 64 were African-American. And, so far this year, out of 9 homicides, 7 victims were black.

After 30 years of studying the problem, community activist Alvin Brooks thinks he knows why more blacks are being killed. “There's a correlation between education, poverty, crime and violence,” Brooks said. “And then the accessibility of guns and then the drugs and you put all that together and you have a ticking time-bomb that takes place in urban America."
Ed. note: I would have linked to this story via the KC (red) Star, but the editors seem h3ll bent on burying this story. This morning, it was on the front page. Now it has mysteriously disappeared. The 'Fairness Doctrine'

An article published yesterday, Jan. 29th, by Editor and Publisher shows twice as many primary stories last week were about Democrats than about Republicans. That's 2 to 1, folks. Surber puts it very succinctly: But hey, there is no media bias!

And my title? That's not a whine, simply an ironic counter-punch with facts against the leftist drivel of 'fairness'. The Right asks for fairness, too, but fairness from self-examination, honest accounting, and ethical restraint. The Left? They demand the government monitor, regulate and legislate timed content. And that's the difference. Got that, Mr. McCain?

Foreclosures Lead to Abandoned Animals

"The dog found by workers was too far gone to save _ another example of how pets are becoming the newest victims of the nation's mortgage crisis as homeowners leave animals behind when they can no longer afford their property. Despite months of warning before a foreclosure, many desperate homeowners run out the clock hoping to forestall an eviction. Then they panic, particularly if they are moving to a home where pets are not permitted."
Hey, dipstick! It ain't the small percentage of foreclosed mortgages that are at fault. It's the short-sighted and irresponsible homeowners who don't live up to their adult obligations to provide the basic necessities to the most dependent members of our communities - their pets!!

Equal under the law

Federal court rules Missouri 'vanity' license plate law unconstitutional, and ends discrimination against pro-life slogan.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A federal court Wednesday ruled in favor of attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund defending “Choose Life” as a slogan on specialty license plates in Missouri. The court ordered the state to issue the “Choose Life” license plate, saying that the state statute used to reject the plate gives too much discretion to Department of Revenue committee officials who approve and reject applications.

“The statute does not provide the Joint Committee with specific standards or
guidelines upon which to base their decisions and no explanation is required for a denial of one’s application. As a result, [the statute] is unconstitutionally vague and overbroad,” wrote Senior U.S. District Judge Scott O. Wright.
The 9th Circuit! court ruled similarly in an Arizona case involving first amendment rights.

These are both good rulings because it's not about whether you agree with pro-life or pro-abortion; it's about citizens being treated equally under the law - and not subject to the whims and prejudices of bureaucrats.

Creeping sharia

Most municipal pools have dress codes. Bulky, cumbersome clothes are generally regarded as a safety hazard when wet - unless, of course, you're muslim.

Two Muslim women have successfully sued the authorities in Gothenburg, Sweden because it required them to wear the same clothing as other parents who brought their children to swim at the municipal pool. The Court of Appeal for western Sweden found the City of Gothenburg guilty of ethnic discrimination and ordered the authorities to pay the women 20,000 kronor ($3,000) each in damages.
This type of reasoning is not 'discrimination', but it is 'privilage' and runs counter to public safety.
Practitioners of fundamentalist religions have no room in their doctrine for reason, or for free will, either. That kind of thinking is not confined to Islam…and it doesn’t matter, really, unless you demand to be the exception to reasonable behavior and thereby potentially place your child in harm’s way. And had one of the children of these mothers come to harm in the swimming pool do you think they would also be suing the same authorities?

President Bush was set to act Tuesday on his State of the Union promise to sign an executive order directing federal agencies to ignore any future earmarks not voted on by Congress.
Ok. Fine. But we all know that an exec order is only good until the next administration axes it. And GW ain't exactly been a fiscal conservative with all his post 9-11 hand outs, and little used veto pen. As an antithesis to this history, GW said, "American families have to balance their budgets, and so should their government." Uh, huh. Congress needs to act, and the only way that will happen is if their feet are put in the fire by the electorate. But given the 'i want my nanny state' attitude of much of the electorate, I don't hold out much hope.

GW did cut taxes, and stressed those cuts need to be permanent. To add emphasis, he added, "Others have said they would personally be happy to pay higher taxes. I welcome their enthusiasm, and I am pleased to report that the IRS accepts both checks and money orders."

Mosul, in northern Iraq, is al-Qaida's last major urban stronghold. More name that party!

Detroit has one heckuva scandal involving its mayor. He and his chief aide now admit to lying about their romantic affair. That was in a trial that cost the city $9 million. In its coverage so far, the Detroit Free Press has been unable to figure out the political affiliation of the town’s mayor.

Ok. Big deal. So what. Surber points out, that in a www world, one in which the Detroit Free Press publishes online, the rest of the world's readers might want to know such things.

My guess is if this mayor was a republican, that would be mentioned in paragraph one. But I'm just silly that way.

FALLUJAH, Iraq is quiet and nearly secure. “The Iraqi Police could almost take over now,” Second Lieutenant Gary Laughlin told me. “Most logistics problems are slowly being resolved. My platoon will probably be the last one out here in the Jolan neighborhood.”

Theoretically we could leave the area now and they would be okay, except they would run out of money.”A skeleton crew of a mere 250 Marines is all that remains as the United States wraps up its final mission in what was once Iraq's most violent city.

Obsessed about 'Obsession'

The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) is upset about a film entitled 'Obsession'. The film's advertisement campaign featured the saying, "Radical Islam Wants You Dead."

Florida's Attorney General Bill McCollum is requiring his employees to attend one of three screenings of this film. McCollum says that the screening is intended to help employees "better understand the threat that we face as a nation and society."

The MPAC says that this is tainting the purpose of the Attorney General's office by subjecting employees to such hateful and divisive messages.

The only problem is that the MPAC itself has a long history of "hateful and divisive messages."

'Toons

Sorry. I had to alter this last one. The original can be found here.

Electile disfunction

Did Bush Destroy The Republican Party? Peggy Noonan blasts GW as the main villain in the current Republican malaise which shunned right of center, bed rock candidates as Tancredo, Hunter & Thompson, and embraced notable RINOs such as McCain & Huckabee.

Ed Morrissey brings a little perspective to Noonan's rant.

The seeds of Republican discontent took root in Congress, not the executive. It was the succession of Republican Congresses that refused to cut spending, and instead blew wads of cash on non-defense discretionary spending. Bush led in some of these efforts, but he didn't multiply pork exponentially; that came from House and Senate Republicans. He didn't climb into bed with K Street, either -- that project started before Bush ever arrived at the White House with Tom DeLay and others.

It may be fashionable for Republicans to cast all blame on the President, but that falsely absolves those who created the problems that plague us at the moment. It may also sound rhetorically spectacular to declare the party "destroyed" by having its constituent coalitions debate about its direction, but it's both inaccurate and hyperbolic.
Maybe. maybe not.

Parent Peeved Over Movies Allegedly Shown At Luther High.
According to one concerned parent, his son, a student at Luther Oklahoma High School, has watched over 46 hours of movies in class since Oct. 2007.

"I want my son to be able to do algebra. I want him to know about Oklahoma history. I want him to know about literature. These are things that he needs to be prepared for, for life."
When the concerned parent repeatedly questioned the wisdom of movies vs homework, a snide teacher remarked, "Seriously! Are we going to continue doing this the rest of the year?"

Uh huh. Typical elitist, lazy union attitude. The NEA claims they want parental involvement, but all they really want is the public's tax money to guaranteed the teacher's union jobs.
Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Education are also investigating the allegations, noting that by law, students should receive at least six hours of instruction per day.

Dutch to ban burqas in schools and government offices.

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The Dutch government is set to impose a ban on the Muslim burqa in schools and government offices, media reported on Wednesday, in a retreat from the previous cabinet's plan for a general ban.

The wearing of headscarves in schools and at work is a sensitive topic across the European Union. France, with Europe's largest Muslim minority, bans headscarves and other religious garb from state schools. Italy has a decades-old law against covering the face in public as an anti-terrorism measure.

The Dutch cabinet has decided against a broad ban on burqas in public as that would violate the principle of freedom of religion, news agency ANP said, citing unnamed cabinet sources.

Black - by popular demand

One of my favorites, Walter E. Williams, explains the histrionic nonsense behind the subprime bailout. (For those of you not familiar with Dr. Williams, he serves on the faculty of George Mason University as John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics, and is the author of "More Liberty Means Less Government: Our Founders Knew This Well.")

Many lenders did make loans to people who had no realistic ability to pay them back. But that doesn't qualify as fraud, although there might have been a bit of exuberance in the repackaging of the mortgages into securities and selling them to investors. Some argue that many borrowers defrauded the banks by misrepresenting their income, the so-called "no doc" loans or "liar's loans".

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Suzanne Pleshette, the husky-voiced star best known for her role as Bob Newhart's sardonic wife on television's long-running "The Bob Newhart Show," has died at age 70. Pleshette underwent chemotherapy for lung cancer in 2006.

Over the years, she also had a busy career in TV movies, including playing the title role in 1990's "Leona Helmsley, the Queen of Mean." More recently, she appeared in several episodes of the TV sitcoms "Will & Grace" and "8 Simple Rules ... For Dating My Teenage Daughter." In a 1999 interview, Pleshette observed that being an actress was more important than being a star.

"I'm an actress, and that's why I'm still here," she said. "Anybody who has the illusion that you can have a career as long as I have and be a star is kidding themselves.

Ezra Levant was one of the few publishers in Canada to reprint the notorious “Mohammed cartoons” in 2006. Two years later, he’s been hauled before a “human rights officer” to explain why offending the delicate sensibilities of sharia-minded imams is legal, legitimate and necessary.

Levant is correct in stating that the most unreasonable speech must be protected. It is the unreasonable free speech of women that got them the vote; the unreasonable free speech of blacks that allowed schools to be de-segregated; the unreasonable free speech of Native Americans that allowed them to be repaid for past wrongs; the unreasonable free speech of South Africans that got rid of apartheid.

Equally important is the declaration by Levant that the one institution that he does not have to answer to about the reasonableness of his free speech is the government.

Michael Moore Is Still An Idiot

Dirty Hary explains.

All in the family

International politics being what they are - a wretched trench of sweat, blood & semen - and given the dubious history of most alliances made by 'dominant powers', I'm hesitant to wade into this bit of Barack Hussien Obama's genealogy, but it does make for interesting academic gymnastics.
From the Confederate Yankee:
"So would it be fair to hold Barack Obama's feet to the fire for the Kenyan government's claim that his cousin Raila Odinga is behind ethnic cleansing in Kenya that has so far taken 600 lives? Odinga's father led the communist opposition party during the Cold War and he was educated in East Germany. His brother is named after Fidel Castro. Far more troubling than his past, however, is Mr. Odinga's current pact with the National Muslim Leader's Forum, an hardline Islamist organization. Odinga has promised to institute harsh Sharia courts throughout the country if he was elected, and to ban Christian preaching."
But what does this have to do with Obama?

Dang it, Fred!

Thompson criticizes appeal to Saudis.

"It's not in the United States' long-term interest to go hat in hand begging people to do things that in the end we know they're not going to do," Thompson said.
Iffen you keep this up, I may have to vote for you.

Huckleberry shuffle

Boortz seems to like Huckabee and writes "that he (Huckabee) is going to get tough on illegal immigrants. He has signed a pledge to enforce immigration laws and to make all illegal aliens go home. Uh, huh. That's trying to reverse a lot of pandering-to-illegals water under the bridge, Neal.

I like MM's approach a little better: screw the make-over. Simply take the huckleberry at face value, based on past experience, and file this election year backpedal commotion in the circular file.

Idiot gang bangers on parade.

Two alleged gang members who taunted the Miami Dade Police Department in a video posted on YouTube have been arrested by U.S. agents and charged with federal firearms violations.

Police release disturbing 911 call from dying teen

Irving police have released part of a disturbing 911call from one of two sisters who were shot and left for dead in a taxicab two weeks ago. Police are seeking their father, Yaser Abdul Said, 50, in connection with the slayings.

Gail Gartrell, the sisters' great-aunt, said Yaser Said had physically abused the two girls for years. The girls' mother had recently fled because Yaser Said had threatened to kill the teens when he learned they had boyfriends, Gartrell told a local newspaper.

"She ran with them because she knew he would carry out the threat," Gartrell said of her niece, Patricia Said. "This was an honor killing."

So send her to a private school

A private religious school. Muslim Athlete Disqualified Over Uniform.

A high school track star has been disqualified from a meet because officials said the custom-made outfit she wears to conform to her Muslim faith violated competition rules. The outfit allows her to compete while adhering to her Muslim faith, which forbids displaying any skin other than her face and hands.

But meet director Tom Rogers said Kelly's uniform violated rules of the National Federation of State High School Associations, which sanctioned the event. Uniforms are required to be "a single-solid color and unadorned, except for a single school name or insignia no more than 2 1/4 inches," he said.

Montgomery County Public Schools spokeswoman Kate Harrison said the decision about the uniform was not made by Rogers, but by referees who were part of an independent organization.
I'm sure the ACLU is rushing to the aid of the girl as we speak. That dubious organization can display it's hypocrisy on this church/state crap. I guess I wouldn't mind so much if the Western world wasn't being bombarded with this incessant 'ain't we muslims special?' nonsense every other week: quintet daily prayers; special diet; ritual washing; burka concealment; and any other infinite number of reasons not to assimiliate.

Heck, just last week there was some book store clerk (guess his religion) who refused to sell some old woman a kid's book of bible stories. We've had cab drivers (guess which religion they adhere to) who refuse would-be customers transporting alcohol or blind folks with dogs; universities constructing tax payer financed prayer rooms (guess which religious group those are designed to please), and municipal airports constructing tax payer financed foot washing basins to accommodate - guess who?

You want special? Then take the hammer hits the ACLU bludgeons the Christians & Jews, or any municipality or government entity that dares hint at faith or religion: Keep it private & send her to a private religious school!

California Schoolchildren to Decide Their Own Sex

The Los Angeles Unified School District has already adopted policies allowing boys to use girls' restrooms and locker rooms ---- and vice versa! You can read LAUSD's Reference Guide 1557 on the district's Web site.

SB 777 also uses this redefinition of gender to forbid educators from discriminating against any individual employee, student or other person based upon that individual's unspoken claim of being male or female, regardless of his or her actual sex.

Why? Because these edu-fascist, polit-bureaucrats care about the children.

Major studios nix writers' contracts.
Four major studios have canceled dozens of writers' contracts in a possible concession that the current television season cannot be saved, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. The newspaper said more than 65 deals with writers have been eliminated since Friday.

"I didn't see it coming," Barbara Hall, a writer and producer. "I am not entirely sure what their strategy is, all I know was that I was a casualty of it."

Many nations utilize system of flat taxation

Worldwide Trend toward "Flat Taxes" Should Guide Congress, Nation's Largest Taxpayer Group Says.
In the mid-20th century, Hong Kong was the only country with a flat -- and proportional -- national personal income tax rate. Since then, 17 other countries have followed suit and introduced flat taxes, according to the World Taxpayers Associations (WTA), a coalition of 60 taxpayer-advocacy groups -- including the 362,000-member National Taxpayers Union (NTU) -- from 44 countries.

"A single-rate tax would create a more simplified and transparent Tax Code," NTU Vice President for Policy and Communications Pete Sepp said. "Single-rate taxes represent the wave of the future for countries that want to be competitive and governments that want to respect the rights of their taxpayers."

NTU is a nonpartisan, nonprofit citizen organization founded in 1969 to work for lower taxes, smaller government, and economic freedom at all levels. Note: For further tax policy information, visit www.ntu.org.

Speaking of swine and vermin

Overlawyered has this week's catalog of the high cost of our legal system:

*In Canada, obese passengers are entitled to have two airline seats for the price of one. Huh?
*Also in Canada, Ezra Levant defends his free speech rights over his republication of the Danish Muhammed cartoons.
*Alleged car-keying attorney (and all round douche) J. Grodner, is now under investigation by the state's Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission.
*Playboy trolls gutters even further with parasite portrait of nude lawyer & advice columnist, 23 y.o. Corri Fetman.
*Wesley Snipes is on trial for tax evasion. Excuse me, but you're a multi millionaire, pal!
*And schadenfreude extraordinaire presents! parasites go to prison! Paul Minor, hot shot Mississippi lawyer & politico wanna be, starts his 11 year sentence for bribery convictions. Political Assylum for UK Blogger Lionheart?

From the JR:

Lionheart, the British blogger who will be arrested upon his return to Bedfordshire for criticizing Islam, qualifies for political asylum in the United States. This is the U.K., not Iran. This is the same country that granted Karl Marx political asylum.

But now it's considered a crime in England to criticize Islam?

Shell & Total vie for Iraqi gas field development

...the Akkas field in Anbar province, northwest of Baghdad, close to the border with Syria, is thought to contain up to seven trillion cubic feet of gas – up to 6 per cent of Iraq’s estimated total of 112 trillion cubic feet. The field is capable of producing up to 50 million cubic feet a day, but this could be raised to 450 million cubic feet per day if developed further.

The Iraqi Government is keen to get the field operational as quickly as possible, using nearby Syria as an export route to Europe to restore revenues.

Amputation as legal punishment is still practiced in a number of countries, among them Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Islamic regions of Nigeria. They were also common in Afghanistan under the Taliban. Parts of sub-Saharan West Africa have also recently witnessed amputations as a form of intimidation used by various political factions.

Homeland Security to Unveil New Driver's License Rules

Poor minorities & single moms hardest hit. The ACLU objects.

In its written objection to the law, the ACLU claims REAL ID amounts to the "first-ever national identity card system," which "would irreparably damage the fabric of American life."
The Homeland Security Department has spent years crafting the final regulations for the REAL ID Act, a law designed to make it harder for terrorists, illegal immigrants and con artists to get government-issued identification. Over the next year, the government expects all states to begin checking both the Social Security numbers and immigration status of license applicants.
One driver - one license; plus maybe less identity theft, and tell me again why voter photo ID is a bad thang?

Cheats & liars

That woman who’s challenging Indiana’s voter ID law? Registered to vote in two states. Bryan over at HotAir has the ironic scoop.

Islam in American Courts

While the Supreme Court of the U.S. weighs arguments for or against state mandated voter I.D. laws, there is an alarming rise in court cases brought by muslims which involve prison litigation, asylum, and employment, most of which are brought in federal court.

According to Jeff Breinholt, the author of this article,

"...2007 ended with highest number of American court opinions involving Islam of any in U.S. history. They totaled 888 cases (792 federal opinions and 94 state opinions). While there were plenty of other cases involving Muslims, this search yields only those cases where Islam is specifically mentioned in the opinions.

To understand how recent a phenomenon this is – courts mentioning Islam in their opinions - there were more opinions mentioning Islam in 2007 than there were in all the years in U.S. history prior to 1980, combined.

From the total number of Islam cases in 2007, several can be eliminated from analysis: cases in which “Islam” or “Muslim” was the name of one of the parties but not otherwise relevant to the controversy, cases where the words were in the title of another case cited by a court, and cases in which the words were part of an analogy or rhetorical device in an opinion that otherwise does not involve Islam. This leaves a meaningful universe of relevant 2007 Islam cases totaling about 750 (mostly federal, with 83 from state courts).
Other categories for litigation brought by Muslims involve Libel and Slander; Constitutional Claims and Challenges to Government Operations; Private Terrorism Lawsuits; and Family Disputes.

Could it be these legal toe holds are part of a larger stategy? The “I Am a Muslim” Defense: Trying to Instill Islamic Law?

At least the U.S. tax payers didn't have to pay for it.

Glowing pig passes genes to piglets. Congress ecstatic.

Johnny Ray

Dang, them leftist put a lot of emphasis on a good cry. Even in the U.K., the dead tree pundits are blubbering how "Tears helped Hillary Clinton's New Hampshire comeback." Everything this woman does is scripted and calculated for effect. Everything.

New Hampshire has 4 electoral votes, and a lot of transplanted middle aged and retired New Yawkers. Ms. Clinton is the senator from N.Y. campaigning in her back yard to like minded folks. Although McCain is from AZ., the same reasoning applies. He's more nor'easter liberal than conservative republican.

There's still 48 more to go.
