A group of ten Baptists were arrested as they attempted to cross the Haitian border into the Dominican Republic with 33 children in a misguided attempt to rescue street children in the horrible aftermath of Haiti's Jan. 12 earthquake. The group never applied for proper paper work, and some of those children were not orphans.
(A Topeka area fireman is one of those arrested.)
Given the possibility of a child being rounded up and mistakenly labeled as an orphan in the chaos after the quake, it seems rather naive that these ten Baptists thought they could move children in and out of the country without the proper authority - even amid the death & devastation. Haiti has a sinister history of human trafficking in sex slaves.
Yet, I fully expect every leftist immigration organization to rush to the Baptists' defense since borders are imperial oppression of disenfranchised poor people and are not to be respected. After all, they didn't cross the border, the border crossed them.
Or don't these leftist immigration organizations like Black people?
