Super bowl ads would have been cheaper

The total cost of publicizing taxpayer eligibility for economic stimulus rebates and processing the checks themselves will be around $200 million, Internal Revenue Service officials said March 27.

Postage alone cost $42 million. That's not postage for the checks themselves, just the notices that the checks are even available! The postal service thanks you for the stimulus, GW!

According to Media Week dot com, $200 million would have purchased up to 74 Super Bowl ads based upon the average of $2.7 million per ad for last year's game.

And TaxGirl tells us that the IRS has gone YouTube - just to make sure all the kids know about the rebates.

Total income re-distribution is projected to be $152 billion (with a 'B').
