What Do Scholars Believe About the Resurrection of Jesus?

Much has been made about the recent debate between noted (notorious?) atheist Christopher Hitchens and Dr. William Lane Craig on the topic “Does God Exist?” at BIOLA University.

I think the answer to that question is obvious, so let's narrow the scope of discussion to the historicity of the resurrection of Jesus.

The secular world has tried unsuccessfully for decades to dismiss, debunk or dilute the historical Jesus with books like 'The Passover Plot' or movies like 'The Da Vinci Code'. Their problem is that the facts keep getting in their way...

But, unlike some adherents to certain religions, Christians don't resort to ad hoc rage or mob violence to protest their critics. We welcome reasoned debate and endure overt offense. Likewise, unlike some members of certain political persuasions, Christians don't revile 'pundits who persecute' via the power of elected office, nor do Christians seek to silence, via the force of law, the outlets of those who oppose us.
