Did the Washington Post Prove Limbaugh Correct?

So where's the snit storm of Lefty outrage?

Limbaugh, the day after the Haitian earthquake, commenting on Haiti's inability to adequately respond to the horrific death & devastation:

"That place, Haiti, has been run by dictators and communists. And how long is it gonna be, how long is it gonna be before we hear Obama and the left in this country say that what we really need to do is reinstate the communist Aristide to the leadership position down there to coordinate putting the country back together? The Haitian economy is entirely dependent on foreign aid. They produce nothing -- zilch, zero, nada."

From the WaPo, the day of the Chilean earthquake:
"PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- The earthquake in Chile was far stronger than the one that struck Haiti last month - yet the death toll in this Caribbean nation is magnitudes higher.

The reasons are simple.

Chile is wealthier and infinitely better prepared, with strict building codes, robust emergency response and a long history of handling seismic catastrophes. No living Haitian had experienced a quake at home when the Jan. 12 disaster crumbled their poorly constructed buildings."

Wow. That's cold and calculating. Rush was characteristically more bombastic, but the Wapo and him virtually came to the same conclusion: the wealthy capitalist nation does better in a crisis than the post-communist squalor of a dirt poor nation. So where's the snit storm of protest from the hyper-partisan Left, like MSNBC's Herr Ubermann and Media Matters, deriding such a heartless summation of tragedy?

Or do semantics make it all better?

Wealthy capitalist nation vs a post-communist, dirt poor nation

Chile still has military personnel in Hatia as part of a U.N. peacekeeping force to help restore order there. Haiti is unable to reciprocate. And Chile has made no requests for international aid to help with rescue and rebuilding from their own earthquake.

The WaPo continues its compare and contrast:
"Sinclair's San Francisco-based organization received 400 requests for help the day after the Haiti quake but he said it had yet to receive a single request for help for Chile.

"On a per-capita basis, Chile has more world-renowned seismologists and earthquake engineers than anywhere else," said Brian E. Tucker, president of GeoHazards International, a nonprofit organization based in Palo Alto, California.

Their advice is heeded by the government in Latin America's wealthiest nation, getting built not just into architects' blueprints and building codes but also into government contingency planning.

"The fact that the president (Michelle Bachelet) was out giving minute-to-minute reports a few hours after the quake in the middle of the night gives you an indication of their disaster response," said Sinclair.

Most Haitians didn't know whether their president, Rene Preval, was alive or dead for at least a day after the quake. The National Palace and his residence - like most government buildings - had collapsed.

Haiti's TV, cell phone networks and radio stations were knocked off the air by the seismic jolt.
"

After the Haitian earthquake, President Obama, amidst much press coverage, offered U.S. money and military personnel to help rescue and rebuild Haiti. This past Saturday, the day of the Chilean earthquake, a weary looking President Obama made a brief pronouncement on the White House lawn, with little fanfare, that the "U.S. "Will Be There" For Chile," but since no aid was requested by Chile, Obama could offer none.

Limbaugh again:
"Yes, I think in the Haiti earthquake, ladies and gentlemen -- in the words of Rahm Emanuel, we have another crisis simply too good to waste. This will play right into Obama's hands -- humanitarian, compassionate. They'll use this to burnish their -- shall we say -- credibility with the black community, in the both light-skinned and dark-skinned black community, in this country. It's made-to-order for 'em. That's why he couldn't wait to get out there. Could not wait to get out there."

The WaPo continues:
"On Port-au-Prince's streets Saturday, many people had not heard of Chile's quake. More than half a million are homeless, most still lack electricity and are preoccupied about trying to get enough to eat.

Fanfan Bozot, a 32-year-old reggae singer having lunch with a friend, could only shake his head at his government's reliance on international relief to distribute food and water.

"Chile has a responsible government," he said, waving his hand in disgust. "Our government is incompetent."

So where's the snit fit of Lefty outrage? Oh, well. More fill dirt for the Lefty memory hole, I guess.

But if you're reading this, you're probably a citizen of a wealthy capitalist nation and in a good position to help. Private charity far surpasses that of gub'mint foreign aid, every time. Plus, there's no restriction on it. Please donate to help Chile.

The terrible devastation wrought by the 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile on Saturday has claimed 711 dead and has left thousands homeless. Our thoughts, prayers and Salvation Army donations go to the survivors.

Update: Oh noes. The evil Limbaugh not only runs the GOP, but TIME magazine, too!
