Just a Reminder: Obama Still Gun Salesman in Chief

Gun sales have soared since Obama was 1st elected in 2008. Causation or correlation? Discuss.

From those hard right wing nuts at CNN: Obama's re-election drives gun sales.
"Fears that a ban on the weapons might come back under Democratic leadership drove gun enthusiasts to buy firearms when Obama was first elected in 2008. The most reliable way to track the number of gun sales is via background checks, and they spiked after the last election.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted 97,848 firearms background checks on Nov. 28, 2008, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation. That's the third-highest number of background checks ever recorded in a single day. The FBI conducted 12.7 million background checks during all of 2008, compared to 11.2 million the year before. They've been climbing ever since."
CNBC has numbers which concur:
"What’s driving the demand that has gun makers cranking up production?

Speculation has focused on fears of a coming regulatory crackdown on gun ownership. Liberal administrations tend to be anti-gun and so, the thinking goes, an Obama re-election would set the stage for stricter gun purchasing requirements. Hence, people are buying now in anticipation of difficulty later."

In February of this year, Online Gun Retailer Ammo.net declared Obama the 'Greatest Gun Salesman In America.' Yup. It's hyperbole - or not - , but it makes for good blog traffic.

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." - Candidate Baraka Obama, April 2008
