President Bush was set to act Tuesday on his State of the Union promise to sign an executive order directing federal agencies to ignore any future earmarks not voted on by Congress.Ok. Fine. But we all know that an exec order is only good until the next administration axes it. And GW ain't exactly been a fiscal conservative with all his post 9-11 hand outs, and little used veto pen. As an antithesis to this history, GW said, "American families have to balance their budgets, and so should their government." Uh, huh. Congress needs to act, and the only way that will happen is if their feet are put in the fire by the electorate. But given the 'i want my nanny state' attitude of much of the electorate, I don't hold out much hope.
GW did cut taxes, and stressed those cuts need to be permanent. To add emphasis, he added, "Others have said they would personally be happy to pay higher taxes. I welcome their enthusiasm, and I am pleased to report that the IRS accepts both checks and money orders."
The success against the islamo-fascists speaks for itself.
