A brief history of computer data storage

In pictures. For instance, the first electrical storage device was the 1946 Selectron tube. Maximum capacity - 512 bytes.

The first hard disk was the 1956 IBM Model 350 Disk File. Maximum capacity - a whopping 5MB.




It took IBM 24 more years to achieve 1 GB in storage capacity.
