Squaw Peak, in Az., renamed in honor of soldier K.I.A.

She died in combat & her friend, Jessica Lynch, was taken captive.

Squaw Peak has been renamed Piestewa Peak by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names in honor of pfc. Lori Ann Piestewa.

She was assigned to the 507th Army Maintenance Company - a support unit of clerks, repairmen and cooks - during the early days of the Iraq War. On one fateful night, the unit had taken a wrong turn in the desert, stumbling into Nasiriyah by mistake. The ensuing attack proved to be the Army's bloodiest day of the ground war up to that point.

Pfc. Piestewa was killed during that firefight, and her good friend, Jessica Lynch, was taken captive. The rest, they say, is history.
