Of movies, crystal skulls and archeology

Despite hollyweird's version of archeology (king solomon's mines; indy jones; nat'l treasure, et al) being more akin to demolition derby than deliberate science & patient study, hollyweird does bring to the public's attention odd things from the past that would otherwise remain obscure, except to the most geekish of inbred academic communities.

Take crystal skulls for example.
"Legend and mystique would have it that they originally came from pre-Columbian Central America, perhaps crafted by Aztecs or Mayans."
I'm sure august universities, and museums of that day, with their pointy headed academics, spent much blood-n-treasure to enlighten mankind with such 'science'.

<--- Although the one made out of Legos is probably a fake.
