NY Times Columnist William Safire Dies At 79

He was the only reason to ever actually pay money for a copy of the NY Times. Mr. Safire was also a prolific author who wrote novels and books on politics.

In 2008, Mr. Safire updated his witty analysis about the language of politics entitled "Safire's Political Dictionary." Originally published in 1968, this updated 2008 version of William Safire's Political Dictionary includes definitions of such words as 'Red/Blue State,' 'moonbat,' 'Rumsfeld's Rules,' 'Deadcat Bounce,' and the terms "Throwing someone under the bus" & "the soft bigotry of low expectations,"; etc.

On May 6th, 2008, Mr. Safire was interviewed by "The Book Guys." That interview can be found at the C-Span archives. It runs about one hour and is well worth the time.

I compiled this Fair Use Sample from that interview. It runs about 6 minutes.

Our prayers & well wishes go out to his family & friends.
