From the Chronicle of Philanthropy:
"Thirteen days after the massive earthquake struck, donors have contributed more than $470-million to 39 U.S. nonprofit groups..."
This is above and beyond the 100 million U.S. govt. dollars pledged by President Obama on Jan. 14, one day after the horrific earthquake that devastated Haiti.
"Many groups are raising large sums for relief efforts in Haiti online and through text messages. By Friday, the American Red Cross had received $29-million through its campaign to encourage $10 gifts through texts.
That’s a record for the group in terms of text messages. In contrast, it raised $200,000 from texts during the 2008 hurricane season."
And all this in the midst of worst economy since the great depression, and a poltergeist named 'Hoover' haunting the White House.
You can't out give the American people.
But with complaints about the Haitian government's management of relief supplies and medical assistance mounting, there are still miracles that keep survivors and rescuers buoyed with hope: Survivor pulled from rubble 12 days after earthquake .
