No big deal. Lots of people make political campaign contributions, and there is no evidence of any impropriety. But with civic leader and former Kansas City University of Medicine and Bio-sciences president Karen Pletz in the news for a 24-count federal indictment alleging she embezzled more than $1.5 million from the university, made false statements on her tax returns and engaged in money laundering, I thought it was an interesting bit of trivia.

There's no significant pattern other than Pletz exclusively donated to Missouri Republicans when she was associated with Central Bank,  and frequently donated to Democrats in her various positions as a university president. The biggest beneficiary from either group was Sen. Chris "i love earmarks" Bond (R).

"Pletz, 63, made her initial appearance at 10 a.m. before a federal magistrate. Her lawyer, Charles German, entered not-guilty pleas on her behalf to all the charges."
