Brook Benton originally wrote this song with Nat King Cole in mind. Clyde Otis, of Mercury Records, convinced Brook to record the song, instead. It reached to number 3 on the charts and the rest is history. Benton made his national television debut, singing the song on The Ed Sullivan Show.
