O Holy Night

This is the fourth and last Sunday of Advent - our preparation for Christmas, the anniversary of Christ's birth into this world. Why do I use the phrase 'into this world?' Because Jesus Christ is throughout all of eternity - since before the beginning: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. One God in 3 persons - The Trinity. It's a hard thing, but knowable. Consider the family: husband, wife, child - three persons in one family. A pale, earthly reflection of the Godhead, to be sure, yet God's holy plan, nonetheless. All else is perverse and malignant.

John 1:1-5 says,
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
Jesus Christ is the Word; the Divine Logos; the Light of the World.

All things were made by Him, so only by Him could a fallen world of darkness, corrupted by Adam's sin, be reconciled to a Holy & Just God.

And into this darkness, Jesus was born of woman - 'The Son of Man.' He was tempted and suffered just like every man, so we have commonality to His humanity, but He is Just and Holy.

Jesus said to Pilate, "For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth." But the darkness comprehended it not.

And so, we come full circle with 'come into the world.' Merry Christmas.
