Our Decades Have Taught Us. We Know of Death.

I put pen to paper because I thought it needs to be said:
"Our decades have taught us. We know of death.
It's not an abstract; or other; or graph.
We were there at the end; and held their hand;
heard their cry; watched oblivion.

Our decades have taught us. We know of death.
We buried our grandparents; our comrades in arms;
Our parents, friends, siblings, even a child.
Some were natural; some suicide; accident; murder; disease.

Our decades have taught us. We know of death.
Perspective, we have. It ebbs and flows; persistent.
War ravages; Disease sweeps; Disaster claims.
Trite, true, death is with life. Same as it ever was.

Our decades have taught us. We know of death.
We tend their graves; perennial; on bent knees.
In time, death will be abolished; Praise the Lord!
This world shall pass. Learn, children. Eternal, not temporal.

Our decades have taught us. We know of death."
