So, why isn't it "July 2nd?"

On July 2, 1776, Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. So why do we celebrate on July Fourth?

The Philadelphia Evening Post published the Declaration's full text in its July 6 newspaper. And the Declaration of Independence was publicly read from the State House in Philadelphia on July 8.

And considering the type of mass communication in the 18th century, some parts of the young Republic did not hear about the news for many days, or even weeks. So why do we celebrate on July Fourth? Article here.

Or, how about an American Independence Day quiz first? Quiz here. Careful, some questions are 'trick'.

Pssst: only one guy actually signed his name on the document on July Fourth, 1776 (hint: that name is synonymous with your signature). When did the other 55 signers actually sign the Declaration of Independence?
