She did own a $124,000 house in Lee County, Florida. The mortgage was paid in full in 2003, and ownership transfered to her son in 2006. He still owns the property. It was not sold in 2005 for $47,000 as claimed.
Henrietta currently receives an $800/month govt. disability check.
Plus she hasn't run out of options, and has in fact turned down legitimate financial/housing help.
"However, a local organization is coming forward saying Hughes isn't being honest about how much help she's had in the past.
The director of We Care Outreach Ministry, Tanya Johnson, says just last month she offered Henrietta Hughes permanent housing and a place to stay free for three months, but Hughes refused.
"We would have allowed her to stay for the first 90 days, no income. You know free," said Tanya Johnson.
We Care Outreach Ministry is a faith based organization in Fort Myers.
Johnson says she also gave Henrietta and her son Corey, money, food and offered Corey job training courses, but it was refused.
"We have extended a lot of her services to her," Johnson said."
Henrietta and her able bodied son deny those allegations.
But, wait. There's more! Henrietta and her son ran a 'poor, poor pitiful me' scam against the kind hearted citizens of Rochester, NY in 2004! and she received public assistance then, too - long before this current economic slowdown.
Well, President Obama, the Magic Unicornicopia of solve everyone's problems didn't get lil ol' Henrietta and her able bodied son any housing assistance, but a mean ol' evil republican state representative from Florida, Nick Thompson & his wife, got them a house.
