188 Days and Counting

(Update below)

"Still, a press corps that periodically complained about George W. Bush's infrequent news conferences should not let Obama walk away from the practice unchallenged. And some of its members have protested. [CBS’s Chip] Reid raised the issue with Gibbs at a briefing last month, and Hearst columnist Helen Thomas said the president has "gone an obscenely long time, not holding one."

Not one to let a chance to obfuscate pass him by, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs quipped in response, "you all, to a person, reminded me of our dramatic overexposure."

This lil bit of B.S. from Gibbs totally ignores the fact that the numerous self-aggrandizing presentations which our historic President has appeared are solely responsible for that "dramatic overexposure" - not the one truly legitimate, regular public venue for the President - a White House press conference.

Or is that too transparent?

Update: speaking of over exposed...

Updated update:

From a defensive WaPo:
Obama holds traditional news conference to talk bipartisanship

"Administration officials insisted that the visit was not a concession to Obama's detractors (or a reaction to recent articles in The Washington Post and New York Times about the lack of presidential news conferences). "Given the White House press corps' obsession with their own press conferences, this was an opportunity to use their own vanity against them and amplify an important message to the American people," a senior administration official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity."

Obviously, that was a pronouncement from the Charm Czar.
"That message was about bipartisanship -- a subject Obama has been raising increasingly over the past few weeks in response to evidence that voters are angry about both parties' lack of cooperation and accomplishments."

Bi-partisanship, my furry behind!

Would you like to buy a clue, Mr. President? It's not the process; it's your policies.
