Proving once again that a lie can go twice around the world before the truth can tie its shoes.
At the core of this blatant lie are the hate mongers and religious bigots who seek to denigrate Manny 'PacMan' Pacquiao for his very public Christian faith. Earlier this week, Pacquiao publicly disagreed with Pres. Obama's 'Gay for Pay' political pirouette to embrace homosexual 'marriage.'
In an interview with the Examiner Pacquiao said, "God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally married, only if they so are in love with each other. It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old." Manny did not make any reference to Leviticus 20:13 and has denied condemning homosexuality.
But that didn't stop USA Today's 'GameOn' Tom Weir from inserting the lie "Pacquiao also invoked Old Testament, and recited Leviticus 20:13, saying: "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own head" into his own article published on May 14.
Nor did stop Yahoo Sports' 'ThePostGame' Ben Maller from pronouncing Manny Pacquiao 'homophobic', then magnifying the lie into inflammatory agitprop by writing "Pacquiao stunningly divulged gay men should be "put to death" for their sexual crimes." Maller then launched into a full blown religious bigot screed to excoriate Pacquiao for daring to have public religious convictions.
And not content with Pete, LA Weekly's 'Queer Town' Simone Wilson had to repeat the 'put to death' lie and condemn Pacquiao for 'bashing gay marriage,' in L.A. - 'an urban, forward-thinking haven for the gay community.' This Queer Town writer stoked up the hate mongering when she linked to "Ten Gays Who Could Beat the Crap Out of Manny Pacquiao." How open minded and tolerant of her. I think Wilson is particularly fond of number 2 on that list, an HBO actor who bragged about raping 'scores' of other inmates in an HBO drama.
As a result of all this lying - and in total ignorance of First Amendment rights - some hoity-toity shopping mall in L.A. claims to have banned Manny Pacquiao from its hallowed ground. Or at least the TV show 'Extra' and host Mario Lopez from conducting an interview there.
Another result of all this lying is that the jerking knees attached to the hate mongers and religious bigots who gleefully encouraged this lie around the world, had to update their updates in order to update the fact that they're all gullible and irresponsible - and admit Pacquiao never said anyone should be put to death.
But the damage is done.
