Cummings underwent heart surgery in May, 2017. A statement released by his office said the Congressman died 2:45 am Thursday morning at Johns Hopkins Hospital due to "complications concerning longstanding health challenges." He was 68.
Cummings leaves behind serious questions about alleged corruption in regard to millions in federal aid to his district that Trump tweets recently excoriated as "a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess," a "very dangerous & filthy place." To wit: Where's the money?
Prominent Baltimore community leaders had previously echoed Trump's assessment. Dr. Jamal Bryant, pastor and founder of Empowerment Temple church, who agreed: “We are 45 miles from the White House and it doesn’t even look like we are in America. It looks like we are in a third world country.”
In 2015, Senator Bernie Sanders concured: "....anyone who took the walk we took today around this (Baltimore) neighborhood would not think you were in a wealthy nation, you would think you were in a third world country."
Also, Cummings' widow, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, is herself embroiled in a brewing pay-to-play corruption scandal. It's alleged she "funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars from her charity to her private for-profit organization, according to a previously undisclosed cost-sharing arrangement that multiple experts said raises red flags.
...Mrs. Cummings’s charity is funded by companies with interests before her husband’s congressional committee, according to the Washington Examiner.
“It’s self-dealing. It’s taking the charity’s resources and turning them into personal profits,” National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) investigator Tom Anderson told The Daily Caller News Foundation."
In addition to his widow, and their 3 children, Elijah Cummings also leaves behind an ex-wife, at least one child with her, 2 mistresses, and several illegitimate children.
