*Forces under Union Admiral David Farragut demand the surrender of the Confederate city of New Orleans, Louisiana on this day in 1862.
On 18 April, the attack commenced when the mortar boat squadron under the command of Union Commander David Dixon Porter began a five-day bombardment of the Confederate forts which surrounded New Orleans. Two days later, Farragut gave orders for his fleet to stand in readiness to “weigh and advance to the conflict.”
By April 24, despite taking heavy fire from the Confederate forts and a melee with defending Confederate vessels, Farragut shattered Confederate resistance. The following day, Farragut pushed upriver to New Orleans itself. Confederates in earthworks near the city opened fire on the Union fleet, but in short order, as Farragut wrote, “The forts were silenced, and those who could run were running in every direction.” Soon after, Farragut anchored at New Orleans and accepted the surrender of the city.
Vicksburg, Tennessee surrendered on July 4, 1863, leaving Port Hudson, Louisiana as the last remaining Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi River. General Banks accepted the surrender of the Confederate garrison at Port Hudson on July 9, ending the longest siege in U.S. military history. Control of the Mississippi River was the centerpiece of the Union strategy to win the war, and, with the surrender of Port Hudson, the Confederacy was now cut in two.

Francis Crick and James D. Watson publish Molecular structure of nucleic acids: a structure for deoxyribose nucleic acid describing the double helix structure of DNA.
Watson and Crick were not the discoverers of DNA, but rather the first scientists to formulate an accurate description of this molecule's complex, double-helical structure. IE: California chemist Linus Pauling suggested an incorrect model at the beginning of 1953, prompting Watson and Crick to try and beat Pauling at his own game. On the morning of February 28, they determined that the structure of DNA was a double-helix polymer, or a spiral of two DNA strands, each containing a long chain of monomer nucleotides, wound around each other. According to their findings, DNA replicated itself by separating into individual strands, each of which became the template for a new double helix.
Watson and Crick's work was directly dependent on the research of numerous scientists before them, including Friedrich Miescher, Phoebus Levene, Erwin Chargaff, Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins. Thanks to researchers such as these, we now know a great deal about genetic structure, and we continue to make great strides in understanding the human genome and the importance of DNA to life and health.
Watson and Crick’s solution was formally announced on April 25, 1953, following its publication in that month’s issue of Nature magazine. The article revolutionized the study of biology and medicine.

Pioneer 10 travels beyond Pluto’s orbit.
Pioneer 10 was launched toward Jupiter in 1972 on top of an Atlas/Centaur/TE364-4 launch vehicle. This spacecraft was the first one to fly to Jupiter, Saturn, the Milky Way Galaxy and stars. After Pioneer 10 emerged through the asteroid belt, located roughly between the orbits of the planets Jupiter and Mars, Pioneer 11 was launched on a similar trajectory on April 5, 1973. Pioneer 10 also charted Jupiter’s intense radiation belts, located the planet’s magnetic field, and established that Jupiter is predominantly a liquid planet.
Following its encounter with Jupiter, Pioneer 10 explored the outer regions of the solar system, studying energetic particles from the sun (solar wind), and cosmic rays entering our portion of the Milky Way. The spacecraft continued to make valuable scientific investigations in the outer regions of the solar system until its science mission ended on March 31, 1997.
Its sister ship, Pioneer 11, ended its mission Sept. 30, 1995, when the last transmission from the spacecraft was received.

FDA issues warnings on chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine after deaths and poisonings reported
"The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers Friday against taking malaria drugs chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine to treat Covid-19 outside a hospital or formal clinical trial setting after deaths and poisonings were reported.Let's review: 'Poisonings' is an action that results from ignorance, incompetence, or deliberation. Are these medical professionals who prescribed the drug under federal investigation for negligent homicide, or even malpractice? Odd. The article doesn't say.
The agency said patients taking the drugs for approved reasons, including malaria or to treat autoimmune conditions like lupus, should continue taking their medicine as prescribed."
'After deaths.' Due to what, exactly? The correlation / causation is not discussed in this FDA pronouncement. Odd. We all have it on good authority from Dr. Birx that Wuhan Virus Mortality is currently recorded 'liberally.' IE: even if Wuhan Corona Virus is merely suspected - regardless of pre-existing underlying morbidity (obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc) , the death will be officially recorded as a 'COVID19' cause of death. Then why so serious about chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, FDA?
