*April 28, 1994: Former-CIA officer turned KGB double agent, Aldrich Ames, and his wife, Rosario Ames, both plead guilty to espionage against the USA.
Following guilty pleas by both Ames and his wife, Ames was sentenced to incarceration for life without the possibility of parole. Rosario Ames was sentenced on October 20, 1994 to 63 months in prison.
Ames was formerly a 31-year CIA counterintelligence officer who committed espionage against the U.S. by spying for the Soviet Union and Russia. At the time of his arrest, Ames had compromised highly classified CIA assets - including identities of CIA and FBI human sources, some of whom were executed by USSR authorities - more than any other officer in history until Robert Hanssen's arrest seven years later in 2001.
