*May 13, 1960
Hundreds of University of California, Berkeley students congregate for the first day of protest against a visit in San Fransisco by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). The HUAC was created in 1938 to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities on the part of private citizens, public employees, and those organizations suspected of having Fascist or Communist ties. The House abolished the committee in 1975.
After protesters were denied entrance to the meeting, city police moved in and swept the unruly mob out of the SF City Hall rotunda with fire hoses, with 64 arrested, and 12 people hospitalized (eight are police, mostly from exhaustion). Charges dropped against all but one demonstrator, he is acquitted in jury trial.
That 1960 San Fran protest was part of a general, yet growing unrest on college campuses across the nation. This gave birth the Free Speech Movement (FSM) at U.C., Berkeley, on December 4, 1964, when students, teaching assistants, and faculty members protested against the university's ban on political activities, and to establish the right to express their political views on campus. The U.C. Board of Regents backed down on January 2, 1965, and conceded to most of the movement`s fundamental demands.
The descendants of those protesters are the fascists of AntiFa who now demand that free speech is 'hate speech, and - with a wink-n-nudge from U.C. Board of Regents - will smash you in the face with a bike lock if you disagree.
On to today's stuff
University of Arkansas professor arrested for hiding ties to China
"According to a Justice Department press release (via the Arkansas Times), Professor Simon Ang, head of the UA High Density Electronics Center, did not reveal his connections to China when he applied for grants from NASA.Follow the money.
“These materially false representations to NASA and the University of Arkansas resulted in numerous wires to be sent and received that facilitated Ang’s scheme to defraud,” the release said."

Explanation: Blowing in the solar wind the spectacular ion tail of Comet SWAN (C/2020 F8) extends far across this 10 degree wide telephoto field of view. Captured on May 2 its greenish coma was about 6 light-minutes from Earth. The pretty background starfield lies near the border of the constellations Cetus and Aquarius. This comet SWAN was discovered at home by Australian amateur Michael Mattiazzo by checking images from the Sun-staring SOHO spacecraft's SWAN (Solar Wind ANisotropies) camera. The comet has now become just visible to the naked-eye as it sweeps from southern to northern skies. Appearing in morning twilight near the eastern horizon, Comet SWAN will make its closest approach to planet Earth on May 12 and reach perihelion on May 27.
Ol' Remus has a few words for you:
"No one "survived" the Great Depression any more than they "survived" the good times. They bore up, endured and got through. People "survived" real catastrophes; Genghis Khan and the Golden Horde or the homicidal slave labor camps of the last century.
Survivalism is unpleasant and difficult, but it's the only alternative in unpleasant and difficult times. It won't be about becoming a handy, well liked member of a cozy little community. Open handed nice people with their Norman Rockwell settlements will be ruthlessly exploited and left for dead. Viable communities will emerge, but more like the Bielski or Forest Brothers woodland partisans, minus the antique politics.
Preparationalism—known as "prepping"—is part of survival, not survivalism itself. Preppers posit hard times and scarcity. Survivalists posit destitution, murderous chaos, pestilence and famine. Survival is prepping's precondition, not visa versa."

The Subtle Tyranny of the ‘Expert’ Class
"In science, the ability to duplicate the results of a study is the ultimate test of its validity. And by this gold standard, the deference we have been taught to show medical and social science researchers turns out to be completely unjustified. John Ioannidis, co-director of Stanford University’s Meta-Research Innovation Center, believes that up to half the information published in peer-reviewed journals is wrong, an opinion he shares with The Lancet’s respected editor-in- chief, Richard Charles Horton. National Association of Scholars President Peter Wood says that many of the regulations, law, and programs routinely passed by Congress are based on little more than research flukes and, in many cases, outright “statistical manipulation.”As always, follow the money.
If the findings of today’s irreproducible studies were wrong in some random, unpredictable way, then we could at least credit the researchers with trying their best. We could be generous enough to say that they are circling the truth and, with luck, some future measurement technique or statistical formula might get them even closer.
But while today’s medical and social science experiments do not appear to be overwhelmingly biased in favor of a single theory, policy, or, in the case of medicine, cure, neither are they completely random. For no matter what these investigations conclude, they all somehow manage to shine a favorable light on the federal government, state government, or government-affiliated nonprofit sponsors."
Judge postpones dropping charges against Michael Flynn
But, of course, of course.
"According to this story the Judge presiding over the case wants to give more time for somebody, anybody, to come forward with information they can use against Michael Flynn. Here is more:"The allegedly mentally ill Adam Schiff (D) is rumored to be on-deck for this next act in the Flynn persecution.

"Of course, it's not killing them directly, it's just preventing them from getting up to their spawing grounds and thereby endangering the next generation of the endangered fish."Unintended consequences.
Thirty-six COVID-19 deaths reported in Missouri, case number tops 10,000
"Of the 36, 17 were recorded in St. Charles County bringing the total to 50, the third highest in the state behind St. Louis County, which has had 278 deaths, including 12 during the reporting period and 91 in St. Louis, with three added to its count."As noted yesterday, Dr. Deborah Birx is the White House coronavirus task force response coordinator. She believes some official COVID-19 statistics, like death tolls, may be inflated by up to 25%. (I think it's more like 50%)

The PA Health Secretary moved her own mother out of a nursing home while sending COVID patients into nursing homes. This is some Soviet Union type stuff. So, when do these 'officials' get prosecuted for their malfeasance?
Fauci knew about hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in 2005 — nobody needed to die
"The Virology Journal – the official publication of Dr. Fauci’s National Institutes of Health – published what is now a blockbuster article on August 22, 2005, under the heading – get ready for this – “Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread.” (Emphasis mine throughout.) Write the researchers, “We report…that chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS-CoV infection of primate cells. These inhibitory effects are observed when the cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic and therapeutic advantage.”So, when does Fauci get prosecuted for his malfeasance? I demand his immediate resignation.
