Missouri Revenue Director Resigns Amid CCW Controversy

From the Columbia Tribune:
"JEFFERSON CITY — Brian Long resigned Monday as director of the state Department of Revenue after four months on the job and as legislative inquiries into the release of concealed gun data and a new driver licensing system have the department facing tough questions."
That CCW data was released to the Feds via the Mo. State Highway Patrol.
"Lawmakers have reacted strongly to the release of the confidential information. They are also concerned about whether the new licensing requirements are part of an effort to implement the 2005 federal Real ID Act.

Concealed weapons permits are confidential. A state law passed in 2009 bars Missouri from taking steps to implement Real ID because of concerns about the amount of data that would be collected on individuals."
 And therein lies the controversy.

Apparently, privacy is only a concern to govt. when your underage daughter wants to kill her unborn child without her parent's knowledge.

From 2005 until his appointment as revenue director in December, Mr. Long Long was chairman of the Council on Public Higher Education, the association of the state's public universities - which may help explain his anti-liberty, nanny-state tendencies. Deputy Director John Mollenkamp will serve as acting revenue director until a new permanent director is appointed.

Why 178 Public Educators in Atlanta Should be in Prison

From KM at HA:
"The majority of the nation doesn’t know that investigators have turned up a hatched-scheme in which Union bosses coordinated efforts with public education officials. Further that 44 of 56 school districts in the Atlanta Public Schools system strategically convinced Superintendents, Principals and teachers to cheat–primarily by going back and erasing answers on tests and replacing them with correct ones–in order to have a higher means score for the No Child Left Behind funding qualifications.

The evidence is overwhelming..."
KM surmises there's enough evidence to charge these colluding union stooges under RICO statutes. It sure sounds like organized crime to me.

Update: KS at PM asks, "Why the Shock Over Atlanta Teacher Cheating?"

"There should be little surprise over the unintended consequences of bad education policy."

Name That Party!

Just a hunch, but I don't think this guy is a Republican. From a chagrined SF Chronicle:

"Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and his wife failed to pay more than $239,000 in taxes over a three-year period and have had a lien slapped on their property by the Internal Revenue Service, public records show."

The Chronicle went on to add that
"The Alameda County lien says the couple failed to pay $124,198 in federal income taxes in 2005, $66,554 in 2006 and $48,246 in 2007, the year Dellums took office as mayor.

The tax lien was imposed on all the couple's personal property, meaning they cannot pocket proceeds from any transactions without first paying off the IRS."

Gee. Imagine that. A 682 word story with 22 paragraphs and not a single mention of this mayor's political affiliation - save for an oblique reference in the next to the last paragraph about the mayor being "a stalwart of progressive ideals."

But the SFC is not alone. The mayor's tax problems were first reported Monday by the East Bay Express, which never mentioned his party affiliation, either.

However, Wikipedia list Mr. Dellums as the first openly socialist congressman (1971-1998) since WW2, and he is currently a registered Democrat (snicker, snicker).

Ever wonder why these "stalwarts of progressive ideals" - like the ones Pres. Obama tries to pack into his inner circle - have such a hard time paying their fair share, but no problems spending other people's money?

Name That Party!

"I do find it interesting that the Globe can’t bring itself to mention that the last three Democratic leaders of the state House have had to resign in disgrace over corruption, though, and apparently can’t even muscle up the courage to put a (D) at the end of the names of the guilty. Had these been Republicans, we would have had endless lectures from the Globe about the “culture of corruption”."

No Need to NameThat Party!

The political affiliation is found in the first sentence of the second paragraph, and you know what that means: He's a republican! (albeit a retired one)

Name That Party!

Where once again, we have to ask our audience: Is this politician a democrat or a democrat?

Oregon Department of Justice Investigates Openly Homosexual Mayor of Portland for Affair with Legislative Intern.

"The investigation stems from (Mayor Sam) Adams' public apology about his 2005 relationship with Beau Breedlove.

He had long denied having a relationship with Breedlove, but Monday the mayor admitted that they started having a relationship in the summer of 2005, shortly after Breedlove turned 18...

...At the time that Adams said their relationship began, Adams was a city commissioner and Breedlove was a legislative intern."

So, Mr. Mayor, if this lil rump ranger rodeo is legit and above board, why so mysterious? Do city regulations prohibit city officials from 'fraternizing' with interns?? And what is this mayor's political party affiliation???

The Oregonian doesn't mention this mayor's political party affiliation, but it's a local source so maybe it's assumed that all know this mayor's political party.

Nope. The NY Daily news doesn't know (linked above).

The Plain Dealer picked up the AP's wire story, and no mention of the mayor's political affiliation there, either.

Portland's local homosexual community paper is calling for the mayor to resign, and even they don't mention his political party affiliation.

Oh. Wait. He's is a democrat. I'm glad it was so easy to learn.
