A Sad State of Affairs

Arizona passes bill banning ethnic studies programs in state schools.

"The bill, which passed 32-26 in the state House, had been approved by the Senate a day earlier. It now goes to Gov. Jan Brewer for her signature.

The new bill would make it illegal for a school district to teach any courses that promote the overthrow of the U.S. government, promote resentment of a particular race or class of people, are designed primarily for students of a particular ethnic group or "advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals."

It's not sad that Arizona legislature passed such a bill, but it's sad that it was necessary to pass such a bill to ban such outright bigotry and sedition - from a public school system. Your tax dollars at work.

"State Superintendent for Public Instruction Tom Horne called passage in the state House a victory for the principle that education should unite, not divide students of differing backgrounds."

Augustine Romero, director of Tuscon Unified School District's ethnic-studies department will be very upset at this new law. You see, he directs a "$2.6 million "ethnic studies" program heavy on 'race-based resentment' of white people, and romantic portrayals of mass murdering sociopath che guevara, and brutal dictator fidel castro.

Up until today, Mr. Romero was still hard at it.

Mr. Kobach was instrumental in drafting the new Arizona anti-illegal immigration law, and he knows from whence he speaks: Kobach is a law professor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, was Attorney General John Ashcroft’s chief adviser on immigration law and border security from 2001 to 2003.

Michelle Malkin alerted me (and the 12 gazillion other people who read her blog) that The Gray Lady got a clue. Kris Kobach has a NY Times op/ed piece published today about this new law, entitled Why Arizona Drew a Line:

"Predictably, groups that favor relaxed enforcement of immigration laws, including the American Civil Liberties Union and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, insist the law is unconstitutional. Less predictably, President Obama declared it “misguided” and said the Justice Department would take a look.

Presumably, the government lawyers who do so will actually read the law, something its critics don’t seem to have done. The arguments we’ve heard against it either misrepresent its text or are otherwise inaccurate. As someone who helped draft the statute, I will rebut the major criticisms individually:"

Seven States Contemplate Anti-Illegal Immigrant Legislation

Only seven??

During the Bush administration, the flaccid chief of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, couldn't bring himself to say "illegal immigrant," and Bush couldn't bring himself to defend our southern border. The pundits of 2008 proclaimed that my vote for McCain would get us 4 more years of Bush, and they were right. Obama's not defending our southern border, either.

U.S. citizens and their state governments are fed up (see Border Disorder).

Here's a list of who is doing what:

Utah	Require immigrants to carry proof of status, require law enforcement officers to question anyone they believe is in the country illegally, and target employers who hire or transport undocumented immigrants.	Legislation still has to be drafted, but Rep. Stephen Sandstorm (R) claims he “has the support to do it.”
Georgia	Nathan Deal (R), who is running for Governor, wants to propose legislation that mirrors Arizona’s.	Tentatively pending Deal’s election.
Colorado	Today, Colorado gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis (R) said that if he were governor, he would seek to pass something “very similar” to what Arizona enacted.	Tentatively pending McInnis’ election.
Maryland	State Delegate Pat McDonough (R) “plans to start sending a survey to every candidate for the General Assembly — along with the candidates for governor — asking them whether they agree with Arizona’s approach.”	McDounough’s survey will start being circulated this week as he hopes to “know who is in favor of the Arizona bill and who is not” by this summer.
Ohio	Butler County Sheriff Rick Jones and Ohio Rep. Courtney Combs (R) sent a letter to Gov. Ted Strickland asking him “to employ” his “leadership role” “to assure legislation is passed that will mirror” Arizona’s.	Strickland’s press person says he “hasn’t had an opportunity to review Arizona law” and is concerned it might be unconstitutional.
North Carolina	Local anti-immigrant groups claim that lawmakers have told them that “the chances similar legislation will be filed here is over 95%.”	The same groups also concede that such legislation wouldn’t “get far” in their state.
Texas	Republican state Rep. Debbie Riddle of Tomball says she plans to push for a law similar to Arizona’s.	Riddle says she will introduce the measure in the January legislative session.
Texas	Farmers Branch, a Dallas suburb of 30,000 people, passed an ordinance written by IRLI lawyer Kris Kobach which would prevent landlords from renting houses or apartments to undocumented immigrants.	Last month, a U.S. District judge ruled the ordinance unconstitutional. IRLI is helping Farmers Branch repeal the District judge decision.
Missouri	The state legislature is considering a law, likely written by Kobach, that would make it unlawful for any person to conceal, harbor, transport, or shelter “illegal aliens” and would also make it a crime for undocumented immigrants to transport themselves.	The bill has been referred to the Missouri House International Trade and Immigration Committee.
Oklahoma	Restrict the ability of undocumented immigrants to obtain IDs or public assistance, give police authority to check the status of anyone arrested, and make it a felony to knowingly provide shelter, transportation or employment to the undocumented.	After IRLI filed an amicus brief in the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in support of HB 1804, the court refused to reconsider its decision that prohibits Oklahoma from enforcing two of the main parts of HB 1804.
Nebraska	Residents in Fremont Nebraska likely will vote in July on a proposed ordinance to ban the “harboring,” hiring and renting to undocumented immigrants.	Last Friday, the Nebraska Supreme Court upheld a lower court’s ruling that there was no authority to stop an election on the ordinance following a petition filed by Kobach.

Although, it seems they are rather upset with the newly enacted "draconian" Arizona law, and dread the prospect of copy-cat laws from other states. Our friends at the oddly named "Think Progress" also reference some knee jerk bigotry from the Southern Poverty Law Center which designates those who oppose illegal immigration as being members of a "nativist-extremist hate group." Huh?

Yet, I don't detect any outrage at President Obama or the federal govt. since the new Arizona anti-illegal immigration law simply mirrors already existing federal law.

That's easy to explain. Their vote for Obama got them 4 more years of Bush.

Except, Arizona, et al, ain't cooperating.

The New York Magazine Online just published a very long human interest story on Sarah Palin. The author, Gabriel Sherman, wrote 6,177 words in 65 paragraphs across 8 pages - along with a few mediocre logo parodies - to offer a back-handed compliment as to how Sarah Palin is a one woman industry energizing the political arena and amassing millions in a personal fortune by doing so.

Mr. Gabriel flirts with the notion that somehow politics is besmirched by it all, but he can't quite bring himself to actually write those words.

The funniest sentences in this biographical labyrinth?

A Toilet Paper Shortage in U.S. like in Cuba?

China is hording waste paper products and adversely impacting the global market. I guess 1.3 billion Chinese need to use something else in the throne room besides Yankee dollars.

Liberals are fond of fawning over Papa Fidel and Uncle Raul and the wonderful benevolence they claim to impose upon their desperately poor, captive citizens - despite the brutal realities to the contrary. Like Cuba's 2009 toilet paper shortage.

That was perhaps a teachable moment for the Chi-coms and hording waste paper is an attempt to stave off a similar situation.

"Printer and copier paper retain the nice, long fibers that make the best recycled toilet paper. But a resurgent Chinese economy and domestic waste reduction efforts are cutting the available supply of the good stuff, said Jeff Phillips, executive vice president of operations at Seventh Generation, a major recycled toilet paper manufacturer.

“The cost of office waste paper has skyrocketed (more than doubled) in the last six months primarily as a result of China re-entering the market,” Phillips wrote in an e-mail to Wired.com. “There has [also] been a reduction in availability due to more offices trying to reduce paper consumption and through the use of electronic media."

This could all adversely affect the supplies of toilet paper and cause the price to soar at your local store. Because cutting down more trees will not be tolerated by our Gaia worshiping betters, in the federal halls of power.

So there you have it. Obama sits amidst massive debt, profligate spending, threatened tax increases, unemployment. And, now, a looming toilet paper shortage, all thanks to a nefarious conspiracy between the tree hugging frog lickers  and our money masters, the Chi-Coms, to rid Americans of one more sit down comfort.

Society is full of violent degenerates & perverts who prey on the most helpless citizens via theft, assault, and drugs, but there appears to be a preponderance of this scum employed as public school teachers. Can anyone tell me what other single profession can lay claim to such a disproportionately large number of horrid assaults against our children?

We, here at LB1901, have made a small attempt to document a systemic history of disfunction in public schools by the most vile & reprehensible perverts who prey on our children. Yet, where's the outrage?

What is the common denominator which reposits an inordinately high number of reprobates into the public school system? Teachers are supposed to be the more enlightened and informed in our society. That often comes through higher education. But what else is imparted at college?

Is it the climate of sexual permissiveness rampant on campii across the nation which breeds this lust for all things young - that is then carried like an insidious disease into a workplace full of children? Yet, simple 'opportunity' doesn't explain these sexual assaults upon our children by their teachers, as many who do work with children are not prone to these reprehensible acts of abuse against our children.

We'll grant the benefit of the doubt and deem the teacher's union and district administrators across the country blameless in the obvious recruitment of these perverts.

Is it the relativistic philosophy distilled by a liberal arts education that softens the inhibitions and urges fulfillment of any desire, regardless of convention or morals? After all, morality is so medieval. And isn't that why the Spanish Inquisition happened? Not sure. History was dropped in favor of 'self-esteem 101' and 'the politics of multi-culturalism.'

Perhaps it's the completely predictable culture of perpetual adolescence brought about by the irresponsible enablers of the ever-present nanny state. It's shouted through bullhorns and street protests that 'education, abortion, sexual identity, housing, no borders, health care, and belief in UFOs', etc is a "right." Most likely, your public High School has a health clinic where your teen can acquire birth control or even an abortion without your knowledge or consent. And join a UFO club. Gov. Bob Riley signed the bill into law last week. It changes Alabama’s tenure law to allow for a teacher convicted of a class A felony, such as murder, first degree rape, arson, robbery or burglary, as well as sex offenses, to be terminated without pay.

The new law went into effect immediately, clearing the way for the Morgan County Board of Education to terminate Defoor. She has been on administrative leave with pay.

Last week, Defoor was sentenced to two years in prison for her felony conviction on charges of enticing a child for sexual purposes, a felony.

Defoor was convicted of having sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl."

The teacher plied the girl with liquor, then took her home to engage in a menage a trois with a man. The girl refused, but the teacher had sex in front of her anyway.

Until this change in the law, a convicted teacher could receive full pay and benefits while in prison.

Seriously? These economists better pull their heads out of their collective bvtts because that's exactly where those '40,000 jobs' need to come out.

Although govt. union jobs are expanding rapidly, but local governments, and the taxpayers who pay for their wages & benefits, don't like it.

"At the heart of this fight is an unbalanced equation: The economy is shrinking cities' and states' tax income as their pension and health-care costs have soared. As a result, some governments are diverting money from services to cover benefits, or raising taxes and fees. That doesn't sit well with some taxpayers—many frustrated at seeing their own benefits being cut by private-sector employers.

So governments are seeking cuts in union benefits long considered sacrosanct. This has risks. Public-employee unions are among the biggest political spenders, and their members vote in droves. Also, cutting benefits could make it tougher to keep the best employees."

Voting money from the public coffers into their own pocket. How convenient. And all without running for public office.

And guess what? Most union members work for government.

I'm not sure about that as an absolute, but John Stossel did write a good article about the inherent inefficiency in gub'mint, and how "Practices that would bankrupt private companies are considered normal for the public sector."
